After months of hard work under challenging conditions, caregivers are still under intense pressure.
As all healthcare professionals, physicians have been caught off guard by COVID-19 over the last 20 months. Levels of stress, anxiety and exhaustion may have peaked along with the pandemic, but even now the context of medical practice remains difficult and demanding.
Challenges such as pandemic fatigue, personnel shortages, excessive workloads and loss of meaning are piling up and taking a toll on family life, workplace relationships, motivation and overall physician health.
Surveys from the Collège des médecins du Québec and the Canadian Medical Association, as well as multiple studies, have illustrated the pandemic’s negative impact on physicians. At the QPHP, this impact has led to a 28% increase in requests for assistance in the last year, between June 2020 and May 2021, and this upward trend continues.
Taking care of physicians
As calls to support caregivers climb all over the country, Quebec physicians can count on their health program, the QPHP.
Created by physicians for physicians, the QPHP is a confidential, independent assistance service and peer support organization—the only one of its kind in the province.
By directly supporting teams and individuals in distress, the QPHP provides personalized assistance grounded in physicians’ experiences, so that they can regain their health, keep their balance and function optimally as professionals in a sustainable manner.
While you care for Quebec, the QPHP is there to take care of you.
