The QPHP’s
funding

The QPHP is an independent not for profit organization. It is mainly funded through grants, partner contributions and proceeds from its fundraising activities.

Grants

The Fédération des médecins omnipraticiens du Québec, the Fédération des médecins spécialistes du Québec and the Fédération des médecins résidents du Québec individually negotiate with the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux for a grant earmarked for the QPHP within their budget allowance.

Contributions

Some of the QPHP’s partner organizations choose to contribute funds collected through their membership fees. The amount of this contribution is set at the discretion of each organization and varies from year to year.

Donations

Since 2004, the QPHP Foundation had been securing a significant portion of the QPHP’s revenue through donations it received, particularly from fundraising events. At an extraordinary general meeting in September 2022, it was decided to dissolve the Foundation to facilitate the management of these events. Since April 1, 2023, the QPHP, as a charitable organization, has been responsible for collecting the donations it receives.

Why are counselling services free of charge?

Physicians who are facing a difficult situation tend to delay seeking help. Providing free counselling services removes a barrier to consultation, allowing distress calls to be handled quickly. This also helps to establish a peer-to-peer relationship between two colleagues, in keeping with the spirit of peer support.
